Wireless Router Confirguration
To Connect Your Wireless Router
1. Reset the Router (if reused)
- For older or previously configured routers, press and hold the Reset button on the back for 10 seconds until the lights blink.
2. Wired Connection to Laptop
- Connect your laptop to the router’s LAN port using an Ethernet cable. Wait for approximately 2 minutes for the connection to be established.
3. Check Network Configuration
Open the terminal or command prompt:
On Windows, type: ipconfig
On Linux, type: ipconfig
4. Locate the Gateway IP Address
Find the Default Gateway under the network output. This is usually something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
5. Access the Router Settings
Open a browser and enter the Default Gateway IP into the address bar. Example: http://192.168.0.1
6. Login to Router
Enter the Default username and password , which are usually printed on the back of the router.
7. Configure Wi-Fi Settings
Set a Wi-Fi name (SSID) Set a strong Wi-Fi Password
8. Disable DHCP
Disable the DHCP Server option (this allows your network to assign IPs centrally).
9.Save Settings
Click Save or Apply to confirm changes.
10. Connect to Room Network
Unplug the Ethernet cable from your laptop and plug the cable into the LAN port provided in your room.
The setup should be: Connect the network cable from the wall (room port) to one of the LAN ports on the router
Important
Do NOT plug the incoming cable (room port) into the Router’s WAN port.
