Sri C S Sourirajan joined the services of this Institute as Console Operator on 4th August 1982. He was re-designated as Junior Systems Officer in July 1986. He was appointed as Assistant Systems Officer and Systems Officer Gr.I in July 1988 and July 1995 respectively. He was given the second financial upgradation in August 2005 and the third financial upgradation in August 2015 under Recruitment and Career Progression Scheme and Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme respectively.

Prior to the joining IIT, Sri Sourirajan had undergone apprenticeship training at this Institute from 14.08.1980 to 03.08.1982. Over this period of 36 years, he has been involved in various activities of the Centre and has contributed a great deal to the functioning of the Centre and its role in the institute.

Over the years, he has been system administrator for the various mainframe and server computing systems at IIT Madras, including the Siemens, SGI and IBM systems. Apart from his regular activities in terms of maintenance of accounts and installation of software for these systems, he has also contributed in a number of other ways to computer related activities at IIT Madras. He was in charge of joint M.Tech admissions in 1988, JEE software operations from 1991-2000 and 2009-11 (where he developed various application softwares as well as tools for generating reports), hostel management payroll software, and milk distribution system among others. He has also handled Systems Training programs for the institute and mainframe training courses related to the Y2K problem for various external agencies.

In recent years, Sri Sourirajan has been closely involved with management and deployment of Workflow in IIT Madras. As the senior-most member of the Computer Centre, the Institute has relied on him for his technical inputs and experience. He helped the Workflow team interact with the different sections of the IITM administration, follow up with vendors on purchases, train IITM staff and amicably resolve critical issues. Sri Sourirajan has also been in-charge of the Teacher Course Feedback for the Academic Section for over 10 years, and has aided in its transition to an online system.

He has also been in charge of the data centre and building maintenance, and has ably made the transition from a system administrator to his other duties that involved other forms of management and training.

The faculty, staff and students of IIT Madras, especially the Computer Centre wish Sri C S Sourirajan a long, happy, prosperous future and success in all his endeavours.
