Sri Ramesh S K joined the Institute as Console Operator on 16th February 1979. He was appointed as Programmer Gr.II in September 1982. He was appointed as Senior Scientific Officer Gr.II in July 1987, as Systems Engineer in July 1988. Subsequently he was placed in the scale of Senior Systems Engineer in August 1999 and financial upgradation in August 2009 under Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme.
Sri Ramesh S K is an university gold medalist in B.Sc. Physics (1974) and in M.Sc. Physics (1976), both from Madurai University. He earned his M.S. degree by research from Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1984.
During his tenure with the Computer Centre at IIT Madras, he has acquired knowledge and expertise in various areas such as systems administration, systems programming, software development, operating systems, database management, and application development. His versatility in working with various operating systems, programming languages and database management systems is widely acknowledged.
Sri Ramesh has been one of the key people at the computer centre responsible for system administration, application development and examination support. He has been an administrator for a wide range of systems - such as the IBM 370, IPL 4443, Siemens, IBM RS6000, IBM S390 and Silicon Graphics. As an application developer, he was instrumental in planning, designing, implementing, maintaining several software applications used at IIT Madras for more than two decades. The software applications developed by him have assisted sections like Accounts, Academics, Central Library, Center for Continuing Education, JEE, GATE, JAM & JMET and several others.
Sri Ramesh's application development skills has been well utilised by other IIT's also. On several occasions he has been requested by the organizing institute chairmen to develop software for examination and admission selection processes. His technical expertise has also enabled him to solve a variety of critical issues over the years including the recovery of critical databases for the academic sections and Central Library.
The faculty, staff and the students of IIT Madras in general and the Computer Centre in particular wish Sri Ramesh a long, happy and prosperous future and success in all his endeavours.
