Sri.D.Hariharan joined the services of the Institute as Key Punch Operator on 18th December 1980. He was re-designated as Senior Key Punch Operator in December 1988 and as Senior Data Processor (SG) in December 1996 by the first and second cycles of review under Recruitment and Career Development Scheme respectively. He was re-designated as Senior Superintendent in May 1998 under Recruitment and Career Progression Scheme. He was given the third financial upgradation in September 2008 under Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme. He was subsequently re-designated as Senior Technical Superintendent in July 2015.

During Hariharan’s tenure with the Computer Centre he has had a lot of exposure by working as a console operator from 1983 with systems like IBM 370, IPL 4443, SIMENS 7580, IBM 360, MX 500(UNIX) and IBM RS6000.During network implementation, he has played a major role in the passive components of networking in the academic zone. He was a co-coordinator of short term course organized by Tamil Nadu Agriculture University. For the past 12 years, he has been in charge of system security by providing support for Antivirus (McAfees,E-Trust and Kaspersky) throughout the campus. Additionally, he also has taken care of the computer centre infrastructure.

Sri. Hariharan has also provided significant support to JEE and GATE over the years in data preparation and validation.

The Faculty, Staff and Students of IIT Madras especially the Computer Centre wish Sri. D.Hariharan a long, happy and prosperous future and success in all his endeavours.
